Can we discuss modern Lincolns without acknowledging that the brand is merely a shadow of its former self? Sure. But do we want to? Absolutely not.

As every car enthusiast knows, Ford’s luxury division—perhaps better described as an SUV-only brand—has leaned so heavily into the high-riding segment that traditional sedans and coupes are virtually extinct from its lineup. The Navigator remains the flagship, towering above the Aviator, Nautilus, and Corsair. Yet, despite its SUV-heavy focus, Lincoln isn’t exactly setting sales charts on fire.

Would this be the right time for Ford to reinvent Lincoln? We’d argue yes. But will they? That remains uncertain. Still, it’s hard to imagine Ford allowing this storied brand to fade into obscurity. Lincoln is meant to challenge premium models from rivals, and to do so effectively, it needs fresh, compelling vehicles.

The Case for a New Lincoln Mark IX

We understand the SUV craze—most buyers appreciate the elevated seating position, ease of entry, and perceived safety. However, if we were calling the shots at Lincoln, we’d bring back some of its most iconic nameplates with a modern twist, prioritizing style, performance, and road presence over sheer ride height.

Among the first models we’d revive? A proper land yacht. But we wouldn’t ignore the classic grand tourer segment either. That brings us to the legendary Lincoln Mark series. The last time we saw a new one, the Mark VIII, was in 1998. Since then, enthusiasts have longed for a Mark IX, but Lincoln has yet to deliver.

A Digital Dream: The Lincoln Mark IX

While a real Mark IX isn’t on the horizon, the concept lives on in the digital realm. Automotive artist Jlord8 has now joined the ranks of those envisioning a modern interpretation of this classic nameplate. His rendering reimagines the Mark IX as a sleek, two-door luxury coupe, staying true to the Mark VIII’s DNA while embracing contemporary design cues.

If such a car were to materialize, it could rival models like the Mercedes-Benz CLE-Class. With the right pricing, features, and powertrain, it might even prove to be a savvy investment for Ford.

But here’s the big question: If Lincoln actually built a new Mark IX, would you consider buying one?
