Mazda is preparing to launch the third-generation 2026 CX-5, aiming to compete with the upcoming all-new Toyota RAV4. The company has consistently strived for a premium image, evident in recent models like the CX-50, CX-70, and CX-90. In 2024, Mazda’s U.S. sales reached 424,382 vehicles, surpassing brands such as Volvo, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW.

Despite being Mazda’s best-selling model, the CX-5 experienced a nearly 13% decline in sales, totaling 134,000 units, as the CX-50 and other models gained popularity. Recognizing the need for an update, Mazda is developing the third-generation CX-5, with the second generation having debuted in 2016.

Recent spy photos have provided a glimpse into the new CX-5’s design, inspiring digital renderings from creators like the AutoYa YouTube channel. These renderings suggest that Mazda will opt for an evolutionary design approach rather than a complete overhaul. Speculation includes the introduction of a plug-in hybrid powertrain and possibly an all-electric variant, though the latter seems less likely.

Inside, experts anticipate a minimalist dashboard featuring a dual-screen setup for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, along with upgraded materials. Mazda aims to position the new CX-5 against top competitors like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, both of which are receiving significant updates this year.

As Mazda prepares to unveil the third-generation CX-5, enthusiasts eagerly await official details on its design, features, and performance capabilities.
