BMW is diligently testing its next-generation compact luxury sedan, the G50, set to debut later this year as a 2026 model in the U.S. market. Celebrating 50 years since the 3 Series’ inception in 1975, this iteration will offer both combustion-powered and all-electric i3 versions. Unlike the unified platform of the i5 and 5 Series, the new 3 Series and i3 will feature distinct internals while sharing styling and proportions. Recent spy photos have provided insights into these developments.

Digital artist Theottle has created a rendering that decamouflages a recent BMW 3 Series prototype, revealing potential design elements. Drawing inspiration from the larger 5 Series for the side and rear, the rendering incorporates Neue Klasse styling cues at the front and rear, including the grille, bumpers, headlights, and taillights. M-specific touches are evident, even though the rendering represents a 330i version rather than an M340 variant.

The upcoming BMW 3 Series is expected to include both sedan and station wagon versions. The i3 will adopt a sleeker, more aerodynamic design, while the traditional 3 Series will feature longer hoods, a more upright windshield, and a muscular overall appearance, harkening back to BMW’s sporty heritage. Powertrain options are anticipated to include updated mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of current offerings, maintaining a balance between innovation and tradition.

As BMW prepares to unveil the next-generation 3 Series, enthusiasts eagerly await the blend of classic design elements and modern advancements that have defined the model’s enduring appeal.
