Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Station Wagon renderad som en BMW M5 Touring Rival

Cadillac was once at the forefront of the station wagon market, particularly with the second-generation CTS, which was offered in sedan, coupe, and wagon variants. While wagons have largely fallen out of favor in the U.S., the legacy of performance-focused estates remains strong.

The second-generation Cadillac CTS debuted at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Initially available as a sedan, the lineup expanded to include a station wagon for the 2010 model year and a coupe for 2011. General Motors ensured that performance enthusiasts weren’t left out, offering the CTS in a high-performance V-Series trim across all three body styles. Equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8, the CTS-V wagon boasted 556 horsepower and 551 lb-ft of torque—impressive figures for its time.

Fast forward to today, and Cadillac’s high-performance legacy continues with the CT5-V Blackwing. The 2025 model delivers 668 horsepower and 659 lb-ft of torque, proving that the brand is still committed to performance despite a shifting industry landscape. The CT5 has recently received a mid-cycle refresh, and while the CT5-V and Blackwing variants remain in production, they are available only in limited numbers.

However, some enthusiasts still crave more—particularly a station wagon version of the CT5-V Blackwing. Enter Marouane Bembli, known as TheSketchMonkey in the digital car rendering world. He has envisioned an unofficial CT5-V Blackwing wagon, bringing the classic “grocery getter” back to life in CGI form. His goal? To give Cadillac a worthy competitor against BMW’s newly revived M5 Touring.

If Cadillac were to produce such a vehicle, it would be an intriguing matchup. While the CT5-V Blackwing wagon would likely have less power than the BMW M5 Touring, it could have a significant weight advantage. The CT5-V typically weighs around 3,600 pounds, whereas the new North American-spec BMW M5 Touring tips the scales at 5,390 pounds—roughly 1,100 pounds heavier than its predecessor, the F90 M5.

This weight gain is due to BMW’s new plug-in hybrid powertrain, which pairs a 4.4-liter S68 twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor and battery pack. While the latest M5 achieves 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds (compared to 3.3 seconds for the previous generation), the CT5-V Blackwing is claimed to hit 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. If both cars were to go head-to-head on the track, it could come down to driver skill rather than outright power.

While a CT5-V Blackwing wagon remains purely hypothetical, this rendering sparks an exciting debate—should Cadillac bring back the high-performance station wagon to challenge BMW’s M5 Touring?
