Porsche is electrifying not only the 718 Boxster but also its coupe counterpart. Recently, the first-ever Porsche 718 Cayman Electric was spied, showcasing its sleek design under camouflage. Now, thanks to renderings from Kolesa, we have a clearer view of what to expect when this silent sports model debuts.

The renderings reveal a front fascia featuring new headlamps, slim taillights, broad shoulders, and a smooth liftback tail. One detail that might differ in the actual model is the liftback panel; it appears that the real 2026 Porsche 718 Cayman Electric could feature an entire piece made of glass, with the lower section smoked. Overall, the car closely resembles the upcoming Boxster prototypes seen over the past three years, aside from the fixed-roof design.

Despite the presence of rear cooling vents, which might suggest internal combustion power, these are likely intended to cool the battery pack. The model is expected to launch with single- and dual-motor setups, though Porsche does not intend to overshadow the 911 with excessive power.

The upcoming Porsche 718 series, including the next-generation Boxster and Cayman, aims to offer driving dynamics similar to their current internal combustion engine-powered counterparts. However, reports indicate that the automaker is working to fine-tune these dynamics to match the current duo. As a result, there could be delays until Porsche perfects these aspects.

In light of sluggish electric vehicle sales, Porsche is reportedly reconsidering its EV strategy, potentially introducing internal combustion engine and/or partially electrified versions of certain models. However, since the new 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman have been designed as EVs from the ground up, adapting them for other powertrains may prove challenging. Therefore, it’s likely these models will remain battery-electric.

Due to the rumored delay, the next-generation Porsche 718 lineup might not debut in the coming months as initially expected. It’s possible these models could appear either near the end of the year or sometime in 2026, raising questions about whether they will be 2026 or 2027 models upon arrival at dealerships.

Based on recent spy shots and the renderings by Kolesa, the design seems promising. We’d say it’s more of a yay than a nay.
