BYD is set to introduce its fifth model in India, the Sealion 7, a coupe-style electric SUV that draws design inspiration from the BYD Seal sedan. The Sealion 7 will debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo on January 17, 2025, with an official launch planned for March 2025.
Design and Features
The Sealion 7 showcases a sleek, coupe-like silhouette with a sloping roofline and large wheels. The front end mirrors the Seal sedan’s design, featuring an “X-faced” motif and slim U-shaped headlights. At the rear, connected taillights and a pronounced spoiler enhance its sporty appearance.
Inside, the Sealion 7 offers a minimalist cabin equipped with dual digital displays, including a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen. Standard features encompass a panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, powered front seats, and a split-folding second row to expand cargo space. Advanced safety and convenience technologies include a 360-degree camera system, nine airbags, multi-zone climate control, wireless phone mirroring, and Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Performance and Battery Options
The Sealion 7 is built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo and utilizes the company’s Blade Battery technology. It will be available with two battery pack options: an 82.5 kWh battery offering both front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations, and a 91.3 kWh battery exclusively with AWD. The claimed ranges are approximately 630 km for the FWD variant, 600 km for the AWD with the smaller battery, and 615 km for the AWD with the larger battery.
Market Positioning and Pricing
In the Indian market, the BYD Sealion 7 is expected to compete with electric vehicles such as the Skoda Enyaq and the forthcoming Volkswagen ID.4. Pricing is anticipated to range between ₹45 lakh and ₹55 lakh.
With its blend of performance, advanced features, and competitive pricing, the BYD Sealion 7 aims to strengthen BYD’s presence in India’s rapidly expanding electric vehicle market.
