Toyota is actively developing the next-generation Hilux, the 2026 Toyota Hilux with prototypes recently spotted in Thailand.

These sightings suggest that the 2026 model may undergo an extensive facelift rather than a complete redesign. The prototypes retain the current bodyshell and doors but feature camouflaged front and rear sections, indicating significant updates to these areas.

In line with global sustainability trends, Toyota is also exploring alternative powertrains for the Hilux. The company has initiated trials of a battery-electric Hilux in collaboration with mining giant BHP in Australia.

Additionally, British-built hydrogen-powered Hilux pickups are set to feature at the Paris Olympics, showcasing Toyota’s commitment to hydrogen fuel cell technology.

While the core design may evolve, the 2026 Hilux is expected to retain its robust ladder-frame platform, with updates to the steering, brakes, and suspension systems to enhance performance and safety. The powertrain lineup will likely include existing gasoline and diesel engines, with the potential addition of hybrid and electric variants to meet diverse market demands.

As Toyota continues to refine the Hilux, it aims to balance traditional reliability with modern advancements, ensuring the pickup remains competitive in a rapidly evolving automotive landscape.
